Quick Start
This guide walks you through creating your first HVAKR project. By the end, you’ll have a working building model with load calculations.
Step 1: Create a Project
Section titled “Step 1: Create a Project”- From the home screen, click Create Project
- Enter a project name and address — the address pulls ASHRAE design weather data for the location
- Choose the project type (Commercial or Residential) and which space type and envelope templates to include
Step 2: Upload Floor Plans
Section titled “Step 2: Upload Floor Plans”- Navigate to Basis of Design > Sheet Library
- Click Upload and select your floor plan files (PDF or DXF)
- Set the scale for each sheet using the scale calibration tool
Step 3: Define Spaces
Section titled “Step 3: Define Spaces”- Go to Building Model > Spaces
- Select a sheet from the dropdown
- Use the polygon tool to trace around each space on the floor plan
- Assign a space type to each space (e.g., Office, Conference Room, Corridor)
Step 4: Configure the Envelope
Section titled “Step 4: Configure the Envelope”- Navigate to Building Model > Envelope
- Assign wall types to exterior walls
- Add windows and doors to the envelope
- Define the roof and slab for each space
Step 5: Group Spaces into Zones
Section titled “Step 5: Group Spaces into Zones”- Go to Building Model > Zones
- Create zones and assign spaces to each one — a zone is a group of spaces served by a single thermostat or terminal unit
- Each space belongs to exactly one zone
Step 6: Create Systems
Section titled “Step 6: Create Systems”- Go to Building Model > Systems
- Create an HVAC system (e.g., VAV, RTU, Split System)
- Assign zones to the system
Step 7: View Results
Section titled “Step 7: View Results”- Navigate to Reports > Loads
- View cooling and heating loads for each space and system
- Ventilation and outdoor air (OA) requirements appear in the airflow tables within the same view
Next Steps
Section titled “Next Steps”- Creating Projects - Learn more about project setup options
