AI Features Overview
HVAKR includes AI-powered features to help you work faster and more efficiently.
Available AI Features
Section titled “Available AI Features”AI Space Takeoff
Section titled “AI Space Takeoff”Detect and create spaces from a floor plan you have placed on a sheet:
- Traces room boundaries into space polygons
- Names each space from the drawing label
- Applies the envelope types you pick in the dialog

AI Chat
Section titled “AI Chat”An assistant that answers questions and does work in your project:
- Answers HVAC and product questions, citing this documentation
- Runs load calculations, space takeoff, zoning, and duct design
- Edits project data and generates reports and schedules
How AI Works in HVAKR
Section titled “How AI Works in HVAKR”Models
Section titled “Models”HVAKR AI runs on frontier models from Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and xAI, plus models served through OpenRouter. Pick one per chat from the model selector in the composer, or leave it on Auto and HVAKR picks the model for the task. The selector groups models as Intelligent, Fast, and Cheap, and tags each with its relative cost.
Your Data
Section titled “Your Data”HVAKR AI reads your project data to answer in context and to make the changes you ask for. It is used for your projects only and is not shared with other users. Enterprise organizations can require zero data retention (ZDR) models under Settings > Organization > AI Model Access; when required, the model selector tags those models ZDR.
When to Use AI
Section titled “When to Use AI”Good Candidates
Section titled “Good Candidates”AI works well for:
- Standard floor plans with clear room boundaries
- Typical building types (office, retail, residential)
- Repetitive tasks like space creation
Manual is Better
Section titled “Manual is Better”Consider manual input when:
- Complex or unusual layouts
- Critical design decisions
- Precise control needed
AI Limitations
Section titled “AI Limitations”Not a Replacement
Section titled “Not a Replacement”AI is a tool to assist, not replace:
- Engineering judgment
- Code compliance review
- Design verification
Accuracy
Section titled “Accuracy”AI suggestions should be:
- Reviewed before accepting
- Verified against drawings
- Adjusted as needed
Getting Started
Section titled “Getting Started”Availability
Section titled “Availability”AI features come with your plan — there’s no on/off switch to turn on. When your subscription includes them, the AI button appears in the project toolbar and Auto Takeoff Spaces is available on the Spaces canvas.
Customize AI Responses
Section titled “Customize AI Responses”Under Settings > Preferences > AI you can shape how HVAKR AI writes:
- Tone — the writing style HVAKR AI uses in chat responses and generated documents
- Custom Instructions — standing guidance the AI follows (for example, “Always cite the section number”)
First Use
Section titled “First Use”When using AI for the first time:
- Start with a simple project
- Review AI suggestions carefully
- Learn when AI works best for your workflow
Feedback
Section titled “Feedback”Every finished AI Chat response has Copy, Good Response, and Bad Response buttons. Ratings go to the HVAKR team so we can improve the product. They do not train a model and do not change the answers you get next.
