Equipment Selection

The Selections pane allows you to choose specific equipment models from manufacturer catalogs to meet your design requirements.

Select main air handling equipment:

  • Air handling units (AHU)
  • Rooftop units (RTU)
  • Split system air handlers
  • Make-up air units

Select zone-level equipment:

  • VAV boxes
  • Fan coil units
  • Unit heaters
  • Fan-powered terminals

Select air distribution devices:

  • Ceiling diffusers
  • Sidewall registers
  • Return grilles
  • Exhaust grilles

HVAKR summarizes the selection requirements:

  • Required capacity (cooling/heating)
  • Design airflow
  • Available static pressure
  • Electrical requirements

Search equipment catalogs:

  1. Filter by equipment type
  2. Set capacity range
  3. View matching products
  4. Compare options

Verify that selected equipment meets requirements:

  • Capacity at design conditions
  • Airflow range
  • Pressure capability
  • Efficiency ratings

Equipment capacity specifications:

  • Total cooling capacity
  • Sensible cooling capacity
  • Heating capacity
  • Part-load performance

Airflow specifications:

  • Minimum airflow
  • Design airflow
  • Maximum airflow
  • Fan curves

Electrical requirements:

  • Voltage and phase
  • Full load amps
  • MCA and MOCP
  • Efficiency ratings

Physical specifications:

  • Dimensions
  • Weight
  • Service clearances
  • Connection locations

Compare multiple equipment options:

  • Capacity comparison
  • Efficiency comparison
  • First cost comparison
  • Operating cost estimation

Consider when selecting:

  • Meets capacity requirements
  • Fits available space
  • Within budget
  • Availability and lead time
  • Maintenance requirements

Generate equipment schedules:

  • Model numbers
  • Capacities
  • Electrical data
  • Physical data

Collect submittal information:

  • Cut sheets
  • Performance data
  • Wiring diagrams
  • Installation requirements
  1. Verify capacity at conditions - Not just nominal capacity
  2. Check electrical requirements - Available power
  3. Consider part-load efficiency - For variable loads
  4. Plan for maintenance - Access and service requirements
  5. Document selections - For procurement and commissioning
