IAQP Report

The IAQP report applies the Indoor Air Quality Procedure of ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 62.1. Instead of the prescriptive Ventilation Rate Procedure (VRP), the IAQP credits in-space air cleaners against the design contaminants of concern, so a space can meet the same air-quality target with less outdoor air. The report contrasts the IAQP outdoor air rate against the VRP minimum over the same spaces.

Every row and total compares two outdoor air rates for the same space:

  • VRP OA — the Ventilation Rate Procedure outdoor airflow (the prescriptive baseline).
  • IAQP OA — the outdoor airflow required once in-space air cleaning is credited against the design compounds.

The reduction between them is the value of the air-cleaning credit. When outdoor air cannot hold every design compound at or below its breathing-zone design limit, the IAQP rate reads Not achievable and the VRP minimum applies instead.

The appendix lists one row per space that has IAQP design data (a design compound with an emission rate or a supplemental CO2 check). Spaces are grouped by their air handling unit.

The in-app IAQP view (Reports → IAQP) shows these same columns plus Space Type, with a Total row summing the project.

For each design compound in a space, HVAKR solves a breathing-zone mass balance:

  • Emission comes from the space type’s area-normalized emission rate scaled by floor area.
  • Air cleaning removes contaminant at the cleaning airflow (Vc) times the filter efficiency (Ef) for that compound.
  • Outdoor air dilutes the compound when the local outdoor concentration is below the design limit, or adds to it when the outdoor air is dirtier than the limit.

The compound that requires the most outdoor air (the controlling compound) sets the space’s IAQP rate. Design limits fall back to the ASHRAE 62.1 defaults for the space type unless you override them on the space type’s IAQP data.

The design contaminants of concern include carbon monoxide, formaldehyde and other aldehydes, common VOCs (benzene, toluene, xylenes), ozone, and PM2.5.

An IAQP rate is reported as not achievable when:

  • Outdoor air is dirtier than the design limit for a compound and air cleaning cannot remove enough of it, or
  • No single outdoor-air rate satisfies every compound’s limit at once.

In both cases the VRP minimum governs, and the Status column names the limiting compound(s).

CO2 is reported as a supplemental per-person outdoor-air floor. It is not an official ASHRAE 62.1 IAQP design compound and is not removed by air cleaning — it can only raise the required outdoor air, never be offset by a cleaner. When CO2 controls a space, it appears as the CO2 Floor and the report flags the supplemental check.

Air cleaners are placed in the space on the floor plan. Only cleaners with a linked catalog product that carries a cleaning-airflow specification contribute cleaning credit. A cleaner placed without a linked product still counts toward the air-cleaner tally, and the Status column reports “Air cleaner placed but no product linked — no cleaning credit” so the missing selection is easy to spot.

The generated PDF contains:

  • Project Summary — VRP outdoor air, IAQP outdoor air, the reduction between them, total air-cleaning credit, air-cleaner count, and the number of air handling units in scope.
  • Compliance Statement — the IAQP basis of design, the supplemental CO2 note when applicable, and a preliminary-filter-data disclaimer.
  • Per-AHU sections — an outdoor-air summary and a plain-language statement for each air handling unit.
  • Space Detail appendix — the per-space table above, grouped by AHU.

When a project has no IAQP design data, the report shows a notice explaining that compound emission rates and design limits must be set on the space types before IAQP rates can be generated.

Air-cleaner filter efficiencies used in the analysis are preliminary and subject to revision pending laboratory verification. The report surfaces this as a footnote on the compliance page.
